A Milwaukee Transplant Making Noise in The Valley of The Sun

Recently, I had the privilege of chopping it up with Deebo Lotti Maserati, a rapper and CEO who lets his hustle and consistency do the talking. Homie has a resume that’s nothing to sneeze at and carries himself like he’s been here before which is a welcome break from the norm. There’s also a wit and a melodic sensibility to his work that, when coupled with a grizzled cadence, make for a really dope and most importantly believable listen. I had the chance to ask him a few questions and am hype about the result, peep the outcome:

Every hero has an origin story, tell me yours:

Born in Milwaukee moved to Phoenix when I was 12 I feel like both places are home.

I noticed you’re from Milwaukee but live in Phoenix…did you feel conflicted during the NBA finals?? Haha.

Let's just say I wore my Bucks Jersey to the Milwaukee games and my Suns Jersey to the Phoenix games during the Finals. LOL

HAHA! I can’t be mad at that!! Can you trace the origins of your love to Hip Hop to a specific record or artist?

I Fell in love with hip hop when I heard LL Cool J. I'm BAD!!

Give Deebo’s latest visual a spin…

He’s somehow become underrated over the years but will always be iconic to those who KNOW!! More on influences, tell me about the Hip Hop scene in Phoenix. Pros and Cons of the scene? How did the scene shape you? Who are the most prominent or even your favorite artists who emerged from that scene?

The Phoenix hip hop scene is dynamic the city is so vast that you have to stay consistent to thrive just like any other city but especially in Phoenix! You have to collab with other local artists, so their fanbase connects with you. It's like 100 small cities in one. There are artists who rep Phoenix from all over the country since Phoenix is a melting pot. I’ve become a more diverse artist getting to work with and being influenced by different styles. Some of my favorite artists from Phoenix are Desert Baby, Play Loco, Slim Billions, Rick Tay, Bag of Tricks, Boujee, J Hoood, as well as some youngsters like Ricosay Sum, Juju Fetti, Philly Chinx, and Chanze.

Dope! I’m familiar with Bag of Tricks and Mega Ran but plan on getting more familiar with the rest of the scene soon. Let’s jump into Every Stack Counts Entertainment. Expand on that CEO life:

We started off as a clique and ended a label; right now, as a CEO I'm always on the lookout for young talent as well as managing my own career.

You’ve had some heavyweight collabs. Which are you most proud of? Elaborate.

My song with Gates and Philthy, they’re Both down to earth and real dudes; you don't bump into real cats in this industry anymore.

Dream collab: DRAKE lol when it's all said and done I think he’ll go down as the greatest of all time.

I’ve got love for Aubrey but don’t think anyone will ever take that title from Hov lol…What do the people need to know about “Gorilla In The City”?

I wanted to give a shout out to a few diff cities: Detroit, Milwaukee, Oakland but the punch line “Imma Gorilla in the city where the Suns play” seemed to turn it into a Phoenix Suns anthem. S/O Skinny T he’s featured on that song; he's from Oakland.

How is your upcoming work different from what you’ve done to date?

All my upcoming work is a little grittier. I’m at a different stage in my life, more carefree times for me.

How does your stage show differ from your performance in the studio?

A live DJ and a couple of dance moves always hypes the crowd up LOL!

I need to see that hahah. Do you think you’re ideally suited for this era of HipHop or do you think you’d sit better in another era?

I probably would thrive more in the early 2000’s Hip Hop era. To me, that was HipHop’s golden age, and there will never be another time like that.

Now for the portion of the interview where my ADHD kicks in…Do you garner comparisons regularly to any specific artists? How would you describe yourself stylistically?

I get a lot of Money Bag Yo comparisons, and a lotta people say I look like Fab lol.

You’re in the same elevator as Hov, sell him before he steps off.

I'm from the gutter like you, and I made something outta myself. I’m an entrepreneur, I'm hungry, and I love when people bet against me. Let’s rock
